Community social care has its roots in the home help service of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Much has developed in the intervening years, mainly driven in Parliament by the NHS and Community Care Act 1988, the Care Standards Act 2000 and most recently, the Health and Social Care Act 2008. These Acts have brought much change to the expectation placed on care support in the community and have greatly increased the nature and type of services available to an ever widening number of individuals.
